Harlequin v Leicester Tigers. Another of the powerhouse clashes, with more internationals on the pitch than one can count on one's fingers. Back in 1985 Harlequin and Leicester were two of the giants of English Club Rugby, add to them Bath,
Gloucester, Nottingham, Orrell and Wasps and you could pretty much make up a current England team from them.
This game played at Twickenham (why did Quins do this), which resembled a mausoleum compared to the Stoop, these two sides battled it out in what was pretty much a one-sided contest. Dusty Hare had recently retired from international rugby but was still a powerhouse for Leicester, and was still kicking the points for them, not retiring from Club rugby until 1989.
This was a beautiful afternoon, and even at Twickenham using a venerable Pentax 6x7 I was able to get so interesting photos. Leicester did all their serious business in the first half scoring three tries (1 from Tebbutt, and 2 from Youngs). Dusty Hare converted two and got a penalty. If I remember correctly, he also hit the post twice with two other kicks.
Quins won the second half with a try by Summers, converted by Fletcher, who also got a penalty. No where near enough to overtake the Tigers first half efforts.
